Breakfast - I admit it. This turned into a love-hate-relationship for me. Until I was 14 or so I ate breakfast effortlessly, it was normal part of my daily routine. But all of a sudden I just couldn't stomach breakfast anymore. I suppose that was exactly when all my autoimmune thyroid issues started due to puberty and hormonal changes.
And from then on breakfast pretty much became the hardest meal of the day. So hard that I never ate breakfast again for the rest of my school life - and possibly also college life since I hated breakfast like the plague.
And what should I say. The fact that food didn't seem appealing to me much anyways due to my health and eating disorder issues, breakfast was just a big no-no for the majority of my life. Later on as an adult when I was working full-time in jobs I hated, I often forced myself to eat some breakfast before leaving the house in order to not collapse and faint at work but it wasn't the best breakfast experience for me either to say at least.
I realized I am able to eat a quite big breakfast when I am not rushed. When I have time to eat and to enjoy my food, then breakfast actually becomes a joyful experience for me. And I also noticed that it is a solid energy boost for the start of the day - yeah stabilizing blood sugar in the morning does wonders for how the rest of the day goes.
So for now after I get up I drink milky coffee. Yeah, I warm up good organic milk and add instant coffee to it. That's it. But it is tasty and I tolerate this well. Later on I will either drink kefir or a mango lassi once I feel a bit hungry. And then later on I eat a solid breakfast. Lately it is a cubed fried potato with mushrooms and a fried egg sunny side up. It keeps me full for a long time so I am not feeling like I am almost starving when I am about to eat lunch - because that was exactly the case for me when I was part of the not-eating-breakfast-crew.
Yes, I know that slogan that 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day' was more a marketing gig by Kellog's than it was based on actual sciences. But I noticed for myself that eating breakfast is important for me in order to get me better through my day. And for me what works best is a combinations of protein and carbs and salt. Sweet breakfasts aren't really my thing either.
I'm not gonna tell you what to do now - but if you also struggle with breakfast in the morning maybe just take my information here however you want and maybe give it a shot for yourself. And hey, no medical advice here as a disclaimer, I am not a physician - I only speak from my own experience. I believe that skipping breakfast isn't good for anyone because I know which effects it has on me when I don't eat properly after being awake for a while.
