the birthplace of mayonnaise

the birthplace of mayonnaise

Mayonnaise isn't just a condiment - it's a lifestyle!

At least if you grew up in Germany or Eastern Europe where salads get drowned in mayonnaise and then people call it a salad.

Or fries and mayonnaise also go hand in hand. Especially those pool fries in Summer that you grew up with. Every time you hang out at one of those public outdoor swimming pools, you of course don't leave there without eating fries with ketchup and mayonnaise.

Ketchup is good stuff as well but that ain't what we're talking about today.

So, did you know that mayonnaise was born on the Balearic island Menorca - to be precise in a town called Máhon. Named after the port. Salsa Mahonesa. Yep, that's the story where it came from!

I'm not only a mayonnaise absolutist (and yes therefore I turned this into a poster and a tote) but I also love the Balearic islands with their amazing turquoise and blue calas.

Happiness combined for me would now mean sitting at one of those calas on a Balearic island and stuffing my face with mayonnaise. May this dream come true in the near future.

Also worth mentioning are the close relatives of mayonnaise: toum (that garlic sauce from Lebanon), sauce béarnaise (another egg based sauce that goes wonderful with steak for example) and of course aioli with your beloved patatas bravas!

And now I wanna know. What kind of condiment person are you? Is mayonnaise the love of your life as well or does your heart beat for ranch or anything that hasn't been mentioned here today? Hit reply and lemme know!

Cheers,

Phyllis
